What, you want me to spill the secret?! How about this for an answer: I’ll have a costume, and let’s see if you can recognize me.
Wooing a woman is a lot like making a friend. Start small. Invite her to an event with a group. If that goes well, invite her to get coffee or ice cream with you. If that goes well, try a cultural event like a concert or film or lecture, which involves finding out about her interests. The BC events calendar can be useful: events.bc.edu. And so on… Sometimes it’s as simple as hanging out or going for a walk. Be honest & respectful, and have fun.
Ah, good point. This writer should be asking how to woo a 女孩 (girl). If he’s looking for a 女朋友 (girlfriend), that could imply she’s already a girlfriend of someone else! (I supposed he meant he was looking for his future-girlfriend, but that might sound as if he’s going to undertake time-travel.)
Alas, not. Staff are busy shifting library collections so those empty shelves will not remain available for long. If you do need a place to store your books, check-in with staff at the 3rd Floor Circulation Desk and ask about registering for a locker. We still have a small number up for grabs.
I’d really like you to know that my library friends and I do not hate you. Also, I’d like to let you know that there’s often a big difference between how you think people feel about you versus what people actually feel about you. Loving yourself can hopefully help you feel better about these negative thoughts.
More than 26, thanks to my many helpers. And I’m eager to learn more.
Apart from scheduling an appointment with an optometrist to get a better idea of how your eyes are doing, I would recommend doing your best to protect your eyes from potential hazards. Examples include: wearing sunglasses when outdoors, limiting your exposure to bright screens, reducing the amount of blue light exposed to your eyes, and getting an adequate amount of rest each day.
Seriously, after enjoying James and the Giant Peach and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as a little wall, those short stories – especially that one – were quite a shock. Although there were some pretty harsh elements even in his children’s lit, including Aunt Spiker and Aunte Sponge… and their fate. We have many works by and about Dahl; check the catalog at library.bc.edu.

Update: 10/16/19 From Office of Res Life: “Health and fire safety inspections are the main reason a student room would be keyed into. These are always performed in tandem with a graduate or professional staff member (resident director) and an RA. Additionally, if there is a health or safety concern, RAs in consultation with a professional staff member may key into a room to ensure the community safety. For example, if they smell something burning behind a door and no one is home or answers.” If you think a situation arose that was outside of these bounds, please speak to someone in Res Life: bit.ly/res-life.

Update 10/25/19 from BCPD: “When a crime on or near the campus is reported, BCPD promptly assesses the potential danger or threat it presents to the campus community or a portion thereof in an effort to determine whether or not an immediate threat exists, which would result in a timely notification. Many times, incidents are isolated to specific areas, and a community awareness bulletin is issued and disseminated to the affected area.”
I would suggest trying to avoid thinking of yourself that way. The most important thing is feeling good about how you look. Try not to let any negative criticism have such an effect on you that it gives you a low opinion of yourself. Finally, if there is something or several things you don’t like about yourself, try and develop a positive attitude that strives to help make you the best version of yourself.
While the Library isn’t currently hiring, applications for the spring semester will open up on November 27. You can learn more at library.bc.edu/student-employment. Good luck!
I’m sorry you’re feeling that way right now. I do appreciate how you took the initiative to post your question despite the fact you‘re feeling down. I hope that your willingness to look for things to enjoy eventually leads to you finding an activity or people who can be a positive source of joy.
I’m sorry you’re stuck in the B’s. The Connors Family Learning Center (CFLC: bit.ly/BC-connors) has exactly what you need: 1) tutors who can help you get unstuck, and approach your subjects in new ways. 2) An academic coach who can help you adopt new study strategies, because different subjects and different workloads demand a variety of approaches. Good luck! I know you can do this!
Nothing much, just hanging around.
Wonderful! Such a great feeling. Whenever we succeed at something challenging, it adds to a strong foundation of confidence.
Sorry I didn’t get to this yesterday. There is sadly a long history of anti-immigration sentiment in US history, almost as old as the country. You might start with a source like this historical encyclopedia: bit.ly/bc-nativism.
It’s distressing, for sure. There could be many reasons. Academic coaching and tutoring at the CFLC (bit.ly/BC-connors) may be just the thing, but I’d also suggest a talk with your advisor. We all want you to succeed here!
I’m sorry you’re hurt, but I’m sure you will also recover, and reasonably certain the process of recovering will teach you that you have capacities you weren’t aware of and reveal friends you didn’t know you had. Depend on yourself and depend on friends and family. You’ve got this. If you find the hurt remains longer than expected, consider counseling: bit.ly/BC-counseling
How about one of the cushy chairs near the windows on level 5? One of the booths in the reading room or level 1 might work too. Then there’s also “The Spot” on level 4.
