Seems to me he made a genuine apology: “I made comments that were out of touch and insensitive, making a bad situation worse,” said Kuchar. “They made it seem like I was marginalising David Ortiz and his financial situation, which was not my intention. I read them again and cringed.” And then paid him another $45K & promised to call him and apologize directly. Nobody can rewind mistakes, but genuine apologies and amends go a long way.

Fire and Ice

Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I’ve tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

Give me Snow day

Snow days are rare at Boston College, as administration considers this a residential campus. They do seem to have been more open to following city/state recommendations in the past few years though and have cancelled classes accordingly. Just wait for the next big one!

How are you?

Things are good, thanks for asking. Still happy the roof is here to keep the snow off, and I think I’m a little less sensitive to temperature changes than mammals are. And it’s busy, which makes me smile a wall smile.

I bet she works very hard at her awesomeness (though probably some of it is innate.) In any case, lucky, lucky you,. Make sure she knows how you feel about it. I may have mentioned before, my Mom is a sea wall on the North Shore, and she is mega awesome, too – you should see her in a storm surge!

Dustin Johnson, 100%. He went into the 18th with a solid lead and just needed to sink the putt for his first Master’s win, but the pressure got to him and he lost it. Poor Spieth though, not only did he quadruple bogey in the 2016 Master’s, but he quadruple bogeyed again the next year. That is rough…

Why isn’t gender identity on BC’s notice of non-discrimination? Does BC not care about its trans students?

why isn’t gender identity on BC’s notice of non-discrimination? Does BC not care about its trans students?

BC’s position, as communicated to the staff LGBT@BC group in 2017, is that gender identity, protected by Massachusetts law, is included in the notice’s reference “… and to comply with state law prohibiting discrimination…” (bit.ly/BC-nondiscrimination). Chris Polt, an assistant professor in Classics, studied statements at other Jesuit institutions. Perhaps GLC or another student LGBTQ group could contact Chris for his findings and ask for further clarification from the BC administration.

I’ve recently noticed a Janitor in O’Neill who adds the contents of recycling and trash bins into the same garbage can. This seems problematic. Is there a way the wall could address it?

Thanks for the observation; I’ll let my assistants know. I’ve also watched a lot of library patrons put trash in recycling bins. It’s possible that bin was too contaminated with trash to recycle. Custodians are directed by BC to avoid contaminating the recycling stream.

How to show interest in someone w/out being over bearing

What you’re looking for is a nearly impossible balance. Which is worse, to err on the side of subtle and not be noticed, or to err on the side of too obvious but be rejected? Overbearing only happens if you’re overly persistent in the face of rejection. The Wall says: be flamboyant. Stake everything on love. (But let a close friend know you might need their shoulder if it falls flat.)

Two amazing come from behind victories! I consulted with one of my assistants and if we’re talking strictly about just these two putts, she has to believe it’s Justin Leonard’s putt. Sure, Justin Rose sunk a putt from 35 yards, but that was a downhill shot. Leonard, however, had gravity at his disadvantage and had to use so much force that if that ball missed, it would have sailed past the hole and landed feet away, all but guaranteeing a loss for USA. We may be biased though, since there’s no better victory than one right in our backyard. However there is another moment that may just be greater than those two, it’s Seve Ballesteros’ 245 yard shot to the green from a BUNKER with a 3 WOOD in 1983! I don’t know how he saw that shot but it became one of the greatest of all time.

When will the hockey team be good again? 🙁

I shy away from predictions. The elements that make a winning team are complex: players with skills that complement each other, coaching staff that can inspire players and drill plays that work for the array of players, everyone in outstanding health, and so on. The women’s hockey team has all of this right now. Watch them.

Please put up a guide for how to belly-rub a cat. Thanks! :3

While some cats let lucky humans rub their bellies, many cats are protective of such a sensitive and vulnerable area. But you should feel flattered if a cat exposes its belly to you—it can be a sign of trust! Scritches on the head might be a safer bet, but always remember to proceed gently so you don’t frighten your potential feline friend.
