UHS does not have the facilities for ultrasounds on campus, but if you see a UHS doctor and they determine you need an ultrasound, they will set you up with one at an area hospital.
Have you ever calculate your average response time?
I have not. I try to have my assistants respond within a day on weekdays, but sometimes their other library work takes precedence. Sometimes, too, answers are contingent on hearing back from other campus offices, which often slows down responses.
Meow Meow Meow Meow Meow Oooof Oooof Oooof
Hey wall! I realize you’re kinda of like a psychoanalyst cuz you don’t have face so you’re just an object for us to project our feelings to. But you also have that mixture of humanity cuz you respond. This is quite an interesting attachment, hm?
Thank you for the array of animal sounds! Meow! Please keep in mind that I’m not at all a psychoanalyst or any other kind of counselor or doctor, and if you need that kind of support you should always seek it from people with relevant training, such as from bit.ly/bc-counseling or bit.ly/BostonCollegeHealth.
I have a few questions:
First, if I plug some rods into the brain of someone and record the neuron activity when they eat Nutella, then analyze what part of the activity had to do with the taste. Then convert it into an electric current I can transmit to you, so that you can experience the pleasure of eating Nutella and hook some rods at you, will it work? Second, do I have to ask a question to get an answer? Third, how do you answer questions? Can you see them, can you write? Does the color of your paint affect your personality? Do you like the color brown?
1. If you can find somewhere to connect those rods, this could be interesting. 2. If you don’t ask the question, nobody (including me) will know you have one. 3. This is more than one question, and it’s complicated. Let’s just my librarian assistants and I have a close bond and understand each other. As to the color of walls, let me just say that paint fades or weathers, but the wall itself persists.
What is your plan for April Fools Day?
My plan? Hahaha. (That’s supposed to be evil laughter.)
How can I make a request for a website to be blocked on school computers.
You can email websupport@bc.edu and discuss the situation with them.
Can we be exempted from COVID testing if we’ve been vaccinated?
Not at this point. According to the BC Reopening site (bit.ly/BCReopenFAQ) “Vaccinated students are still subject to asymptomatic surveillance testing, but as of 3/8/2021, per the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, students who have gotten two doses of the Moderna or Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines or one dose of the Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) COVID-19 vaccine more than 14 days ago, are not required to quarantine following an exposure.”
Career
I’m very interested in psychology and yet, I’m not sure if I have the patience to be a therapist, I do like working with children so I was thinking like school guidance counsellor or educational therapist, what saith you o’ majestic board of dazzling white?
The BC Career Center has a very thorough guide (bit.ly/BCPsycCareers) about ways you could follow your interest in psychology (and they point to other great resources like the APA website). I’d also recommend setting up a meeting with the Career Center (bit.ly/BC-career) to chat about options, and talking to faculty from the Psychology Dept, the Lynch School, and the School of Social Work.
How can I start my own Christian theological movement?
Well, if you have some theses you could post them somewhere that would spark conversation. PLEASE DON”T NAIL THEM TO ME. Maybe a long Twitter thread? I’m having trouble visualizing TikToks, but that might be better for virality. (Not an unreasonable thing to consider your social media strategy: the New Testament was written in a form of Greek that most people in the Mediterranean could understand). And I’d be happy to provide a less snarky answer if you tell me a little more about what you have in mind.
Well, I don’t use popular social media (I don’t even know if the things I use can be even classified as social media), so I don’t think I can use this form. A Medium post? Maybe, but it’s super hard to get something get more than 100 views. I’m still thinking about the details of it, but my main concept can go in two ways: something similar to Satanism or “all hail Eva”. The first way thanks the Devil for making Eva eat the fruit and get out of Heaven. If she (and Adam) weren’t pushed off Heaven, they would never be able to ability reproduce and no one on Earth would be alive. The second way this can go is to ignore Satan from the picture and thank Eva for being ‘stupid’ and eating the fruit. But the main think is, that main stream (can you say it that way?) Christianity is nonsense and it has plenty of gaps, that can lead to Christianity not being so pure and true.
I’m a library Wall, so I’m going to suggest you do some reading to prepare your arguments. This article on New Religious Movements has a few different takes on Adam, Eve, and Satan that are worth looking at (http://bit.ly/bc-nrs1). It’s probably not a bad idea to check in with other prior art as well. From this list of heresies and what you’ve said, it might be worth checking out the Cathars and the Sethians. http://bit.ly/bc-nrs2. It’s also probably worth doing some background reading on Eve (http://bit.ly/bc-nrs3) and Satan(http://bit.ly/bc-nrs4), as there have been lots of interpretations of both of them through history.
You know what, I think it will be better if I make it into a introduction to the other sides of Christianity and proving just how insane in wrong it is. And by wrong, I mean that it’s full of gaps a smart (even godly. God, I’m looking at you) wouldn’t let go into his work. So perhaps it can be proof and a way to push people away from Christianity and religion in general. Leading an atheist life sounds much better. And I feel like most people think that atheist don’t have an ideology and are science ‘geeks’. And I’m curious, if you don’t believe in any religion, yet you still believe in God as a power, what is that called? Anyways, I’ll maybe just publish an article about it.
Theism is belief in God, and doesn’t require you to subscribe to a religion. Good luck with your writing project, and thanks for the chat.
Isn’t it kind of ironic that a significant reason that prevent me from hurting myself is b/c I work on a psych unit, and I don’t want to miss work.
I know that hurting myself will likely get me sent to a psych inpatient again so better not do so if I want to continue working there haha. I guess it’s nice offering support to others. I greatly appreciate how much it also helps me. Although sometimes I feel like I need a break from my life, from all the deep rooted pain.
I’m sorry you have so much pain that you sometimes want to hurt yourself, but I’m glad you found some work supporting others that helps you bear it. I find that supporting others sometimes gives me a little distance from my own pain and helps me understand it as less central to my sense of self. As much as it pains me to see others suffer, I also feel less alone when I know I’m not the only one who feels pain. If the pain gets too much to bear, I hope you also find that talking to someone helps. I’m sure you know you can always talk to someone at BC counseling (if you’re a BC student): bit.ly/bc-counseling. And I wish I could give you a hug, but I don’t have arms… that’s one of my own struggles. Always remember, just being you is enough.
That is a very insightful and well-written answer! When you get a chance, plz say thank you to whoever the human friend you consult with. IDK if those answers apply to me but I feel better now so I’ll send u a virtual hug. 🙂
Thank you! ? I’ll tell my librarian assistants.
When life gives you lemmons
You make lemmonade, I guess. Life has certainly given us lots of lemmons to choose from: bit.ly/LotsaLemmons
hey!
Do you have any book recommendations? 🙂
It just so happens that the latest selection of staff picks have been posted on the library website. Hopefully you’ll find something to peak your interest here. You can also browse a selection of virtual book displays.

What are the needs of a wall?
Are you able to reproduce? Do you have a brain? Does biology apply in any form to walls? How do you experience feelings? Can you see and if yes, what’s your light spectra? What do you do when you are not answering questions, as a wall? Are you always a wall? Were you born a wall? Is your soul purpose to answer questions or did you choose to do it? Can you enjoy the pleasure eating Nutella gives you?
My needs are few. Safety from fire and water are paramount. With those needs met, I will stand here happily for many years to come. When I am not answering questions, I am working hard to support the library, literally. I’ve always been a wall, though I wasn’t born, exactly. (The process involves, ahem, studs.) I very much enjoy the vicarious pleasure of you enjoying such things as Nutella. Though I know you meant “sole purpose,” I am absolutely delighted by the notion of a “soul purpose.” Yes, answering questions is my soul purpose. You might be interested to read my short bio on my archive: https://library.bc.edu/answerwall/archive.
Can I actually type a million pages…

My heart aches to write one
But things like this must be done
So I continue for you
Each day anew
To carry on
and sing a sad song
You left me here
Just to dissapear
You treated me like trash
And I turned to ash
Away in a grave my body now lays
Away from you and the rest of my days
Very sad, indeed. And sad songs and poems have their place. If this is how you, personally, are feeling much of the time, there are ways to cope with / change your mindset, and Counseling services (bit.ly/BC-counseling) can help with that.
Meow meow meow
Purrrrr. Purrrr.
How can I become a library wall?
Just as I cannot become human, and experience the joys of hugs and french fries and kayaking, I do not think you can become a wall. But you can embrace the spirit of the wall and open yourself to listening to people and answering their questions and being supportive. We need more human people like that!
Question
Does drinking soya milk make you turn gay due to its female hormones
There’s very little human research available on this exact point. Soy does contain significant amounts of phytoestrogens which are not the same as but may mimic human estrogen. Studies of infants fed soy formula have shown slight changes in reproductive tissue, but this does not say much about soy milk ingestion by adult males would have any role in sexual orientation.
I’m a happy person, but sometimes I like feeling sad.
Seems legit. All things in moderation, including moderation.
Why is Hamilton so addicting?
I am not into musicals. I hate hip-hop. I hate rap. My nationality isn’t American. I don’t care at all about American History. I don’t find historical drama entertaining. Why do I find myself watching it 10+ times and enjoying it?
Give in. We’re all just as Helpless…
I’m not sure I can give in. On the internet I see people who are into Hamilton for 3 years and counting. I’m not sure I am ready for this. But I’m not sure if I can control it.
Alexander Hamilton himself was of the same mind: “You should not have taken advantage of my sensibility to steal into my affections without my consent.”
Oh, I recognize this quote. It was form a letter to John Laurens, right? Anyways, since I’m going to let myself go with the prepare for a flood of questions about this topic.
The questions will be Non-Stop?
Certainly yes. I find myself never Satisfied with listening to the full soundtrack. I can’t even Wait For It. If only there was a way I could listen to it more often, That Would Be Enough. Maybe this way it will get boring to me faster. I just can’t Take A Break from listening to it. I know I’ll listen to it for One Last Time and then I’ll probably forget about it until a year later when it pops up in my feed, but until then… But because I discovered it quite late, I’m wondering, What Did I Miss? I have the feeling there was this whole community (much larger than the current one) circling around Hamilton, that I just never was part of. But when I eventually stop listening to Hamilton, What Comes Next? Will I actually free myself from Hamilton or will I still be in front of my monitor with YouTube opened, on the soundtrack, and asking myself: “How can I Say No To This?”. Will I Stay Alive for enough time, to see the fall of Hamilton? And if I see Hamilton loose popularity, will I constantly hear it whispering “You’ll Be Back”? It’s like a never ending Hurricane, garbing more and more people on it’s way and not letting them go. At some point, it will Blow Us All Away, I know, but when? I keep telling to myself, that there will be eventually this moment, when the American revolution is a topic in my life, when I’m people, I will be able to say “I Know Him” when for example James Madison comes up and I’ll be able to talk about the Guns And Ships, as well as the The Reynolds Pamphlet, that were part of of it. If this happens, I won’t throw away My Shot, I’ll speak everything I have learned from Hamilton. I still feel this won’t happen. It’s like a flame, Burn-ing me.
I look forward to eventually hearing or seeing whatever this brilliant musical inspires you to create!
