How do you think Avengers: Endgame will play out? Also, how dope is Hawkey’s (Ronin’s) new sword!?
IDK (nor do 240k+ YouTube commenters), but I think Ant Man being stuck in the quantum realm isn’t insignificant. No doubt the writers will think of a way to leave us all hanging again, though, so don’t get too wedded to getting all your questions answered. Yes, dope sword!
You can check the World Population Clock at the US Census at bit.ly/LikeRabbitzzz. It’s a little bit terrifying. Currently 7,538,712,054… wait, no, now it’s 7,538,712,155…
Oh, so sorry to hear that! But you asked why: If you’re going to get a concussion, “unintentional fall” is the likeliest cause, and it’s certainly easy to fall unintentionally while skating. I didn’t find stats on skating college students, but 13% of high schoolers who played sports in 2017 had suffered at least one concussion. (BC only: bit.ly/statista-concussions) So you, if you ask around, you’ll find you have a lot of company.
How should I ask someone on a date without being awkward?
If it felt awkward the last time you asked someone out it probably will the next time also. It’s at least a little awkward for most people, so don’t stress. Just ask.
That would be sad, if it’s what your heart is set upon. On the other hand, having a math background will stand you in good stead in anything else you pursue. I recommend the MAA Career Resources Center (bit.ly/MathishCareers) and this site from UC/Irvine (bit.ly/MoreMathCareers). We also have 101 careers in mathematics (O’Neill Stacks QA10.5 .A15 2014). And consider a consultation with the BC Career Center (bit.ly/BC-career). Best of luck!
Unrequited love is hard. It’s the topic of so many artworks that it must also be quite common. IOW, you’re not alone in loving someone who doesn’t love you. Seek out poems, stories, and songs about unrequited love, wallow in your pain for a while, and then… gather your strength and move on. (Here are some poems to get you started: bit.ly/poems-unrequited). You’ll find someone you love who loves you back, I’m certain of it.
Potential husbands are all over the place. I recommend getting involved in activities or clubs where potential husbands congregate. Take up rock climbing at a climbing wall, say, or sign up for a writing workshop series at Grub Street, get involved in a politically active group… it all depends on your interests. Churches come to mind, too, as do charities. In short, do what interests you, in groups, and you will meet people with shared interests who might become friends and might even become romantic prospects.
I feel sorry and upset about O’Connor Family Learning Center due to their not proffessional working. Any other writing tutor service?
I’m sorry you didn’t receive the service you were expecting at the CFLC. Please let them know the expectations you feel they didn’t meet, and they might be able to meet them. The only other service available in the School of Arts and Sciences is the Online Writing Lab (OWL), a service affiliated with CFLC (bit.ly/BC-OWL), but you’ll have to hurry! Today is the last day to submit. If you are in a different school (e.g. School of Social Work), ask that school’s main office whether there is an in-person or online tutoring service affiliated with that school.
It depends on the situation. Sometimes it’s hard because we’re having so much fun but we need to address other responsibilities (“I’m having so much fun at this party but I need to leave because I’m working in the morning.”) Sometimes it signals a huge change in our lives, e.g., when you graduate and move on to a whole new world. It’s scary to leave behind the safety and security of what you know and enter the unknown. And it’s sad because you’ll be leaving behind some people too. Change can be difficult, but change can also lead to new adventures and opportunities and growth. I’ll end with some wise words from A.A. Milne and Walt Disney that may help to provide some perspective. “How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” “Goodbye may seem forever. Farewell is like the end, but in my heart is the memory and there you will always be.”
Personal taste is, well, personal. So, the answer depends on the person. In general, something is overdone when the original intent is lost due to an overwhelming implementation. When you can’t see the Christmas tree for the forest of trees, then maybe it’s a little much.
Whales? Wonderful creatures. I have not seen one myself but I understand there are cruises that take you humans out on the ocean to look for them. And listening to whales is an amazing experience (even if just on a video). The NOAA has some information at bit.ly/noaa-whales about the many different kinds of whales. The Smithsonian has a fascinating article about Noc, a beluga whale who was captured and became part of a Navy program: bit.ly/noc-whale And of course the Libraries have books and articles (just type whales in the search box on the home page to see some of them).
Whew! We made it through this week’s Wednesday, don’t have to worry about them for a while. Maybe it would help to plan something nice that you do every Wednesday to dispel the Wednesday miseries, a small thing you can look forward to every week?
Who tf is Q Anon and what has he/she/they/them done to us?
There’s a history of “anon” accounts in 4chan who claim insider government access. “Qanon” was one such obscure account, claiming to be a military officer, and identifying all manner of conspiracies. Several Reddit threads pushed Qanon’s posts. bit.ly/qanon-explainer. Why these conspiracy theories gain traction is a subject of study for sociologists, psychologists & political scientists. Here are several books in BC Libraries on the subject: bit.ly/bc-conspiracies
Trump has repeatedly, explicitly broken the law during his presidency. Why is nobody in power doing something??
The legal system moves slowly, much more slowly than the news cycle. There are several things to watch: the results of the Mueller investigation; what the new Democratic majority in the House decides to do starting in January; and the results of several lawsuits by state attorneys general against administration actions. Mueller has so far charged a number of people with crimes (bit.ly/bc-mueller), and the attorneys general of the District of Columbia and Maryland have apparently started to issue subpoenas in the early stages of a lawsuit about payments to the President’s businesses. bit.ly/bc-subpoenas. This is the process of proving wrongdoing under our law.
Walls have many choices when it comes to careers. We can separate areas; protect people and things from the elements (in a team with roofs and floors); we can go into marketing and provide space for posters and fliers to promote events; and some walls have a sacred duty to stand as memorials. When I started answering questions here, I could tell I had found my passion; it just felt right.
