Just broked up with my ex because I am really tired of him and there is no love anymore. But he cried and said I broke his heart that he will never love again. Now I feel supper guilty but he also did terrible things to me before… Don’t know what to do.
Ouch. Breakups are hard. Have you heard of Suzy Welch’s Rule of 10-10-10? One of my helpers told me about this gem found on oprah.com (bit.ly/welch-10-10-10) Basically if you’re in a tough spot about a decision and you feel like you can’t make everyone happy, think about the consequences in 10-10-10. How will this decision make you feel in 10 minutes, in 10 months, and in 10 years. Be well.
With another month left of regular season play, only a fool would attempt to predict who’d win the series. Betting against Detroit is pretty safe, though. And Boston’s got time to get into wildcard territory. Or out again.
Popeye’s tweeted about their new chicken sandwich, and it was somewhat popular. About a week later, Chik-fil-A tweeted about love for the “original” chicken sandwich. Popeye’s replied to that tweet asking Chik-fil-A “y’all good?”. From there people started tweeting about Popeye’s vs. Chik-fil-A and a meme was born. Read more: bit.ly/KYMPopeyes
Are there any professors who are vocal Trump supporters? I want to take their class, but can’t find any.
I don’t know of any off the top my head – errr – top plate. Most (but certainly not all) faculty choose not to express a preference for any candidate or political party because it is not immediately germane to their work. But, like any rule, there are exceptions. I recommend talking to some of the members of the Boston College Republicans Club (bit.ly/BCRepubs) to see if they know of any faculty that are more vocal in their views that align with your own.
What kind of tree is the large conifer near Gasson? It is directly across from Oneill’s main 3rd floor entrance.
Did you know we have a Boston College Tree Inventory? The data can be downloaded from our eScholarship institutional repository at http://hdl.handle.net/2345/3810. Unfortunately, they only identified this tree to the genus level, not species. It is a Picea, that is to say, a spruce of some sort.
if we just want to say hi to the library staff and introduce our self, but don’t have actual questions, what should we do, say? I’m bad at meeting people.
That’s so kind! You might want to talk about something you love about the library—everyone likes to hear some positive feedback.
They certainly have a chance, but I’m putting my money on the Astros. They’re solid every year and there’s no doubt that the Yankees have overachieved to this point. In sports, it’s better to be lucky than to be good, but the Yankees have had a lot of injuries that are going to be difficult to overcome as the competition gets tougher through the playoffs.
HELP! I’m a senior but I’m in love with a freshman. What should I do??
The heart wants what the heart wants. But with you (hopefully) graduating soon and them just starting out on their college journey, the situation will soon be very difficult. Depending on how long you’ve felt this, you might choose to just stay quiet and see if the feelings subside. Or, if they reciprocate the feelings, you can get together but be very clear with each other about the boundaries (will this only last a year, will you try to keep it going, etc.). Remember, they will change a lot during their next four years, and you will also change a lot in your first couple of years out of school. There’s nothing wrong with (mutually) exploring the relationship and seeing where it goes as long as everyone is on the same page.
Do you know where I can donate some clothes & books?
More Than Words is a great organization that empowers youth in the foster care system, court involved, homeless, or out of school by teaching them valuable business skills. They have a few stores in and around the Boston area, as well as several donation bins that are always open and accessible! Check them out: https://mtwyouth.org/
Great to see UCS’s new website & that they hired new staff. Are they going to post the staff’s pics on the staff intro page? It looks kinda boring w/ only intro but no pics. Oh, and Happy first day of the semester. 🙂
UCS appreciates your feedback. They told me that photos will be going up on the staff page, but the university has a backlog on getting staff photos done at the moment, so it will take a little time. Hope to see all their faces soon! And wishing you a terrific start to the semester as well.
That’s the risk when you start a show based on one of the most carefully crafted and detailed worlds since Tolkien was alive, and then move that show out beyond the world that has been written by the original author. George R.R. Martin is a master at his craft, and has had the luxury of taking his (very, very) sweet time in building his world. HBO writers didn’t have that luxury and, no matter how committed to the end of the series they were or weren’t, it’s a rare talent that can craft stories with as much detail and continuity as Martin. GoT had a very high bar to meet to end the series, and it was almost guaranteed to miss it. Consider it Seinfeld for the 2010’s.
Besides the “Sound Room” does BC have a recording/music studio? If so, when is it available and to whom? If not, where can I find one?
As far as I know, the only alternative at BC is the recording studio at the Center for Teaching Excellence; however, that’s dedicated to faculty & grad students developing instructional content. Check with the music department? bit.ly/bc-music-dept. Were you a guest of a Northeastern student, you might get access to their state-of-the-art sound-recording facilities in Snell Library.
According to my friend the BC Factbook there are 41 undergraduate and graduate students at BC from Italy. http://bit.ly/BC-FactBook. I don’t have similar numbers for faculty and staff, but there are at least a few, and there are LOTS of Italian-Americans. Why not stop by the Italian Club (Il Circolo Italiano) and ask around? http://bit.ly/bc-italian-club
Are freshmen able to do undergraduate research? If so, who can I contact to learn more?
Yes. At least, there’s no explicit prohibition on it. However, most faculty advisors will want to be very sure that you have a concrete understanding of the subject matter before allowing you to do research under them (that’s also true for all undergrads and even grad students). Chances are that you’re better off working as an assistant in a lab or asking a faculty member for some additional reading material in that field to get up to date. You could reach out directly (via email) – most faculty are thrilled when undergraduates express a sincere interest in the subject matter. Good luck and welcome to BC!
Hi! I am an exchange student from HK! How can I travel to Niagara Falls from Boston? Can I skip lesson for traveling?
Welcome! Niagara Falls is truly a wondrous sight. It’s a pretty long trip by car (about 8 hours each way), longer by bus or train (12 or more hours). Flying into Buffalo NY and renting a car or taking a bus there may be the quickest route. Skipping class is really not ideal. You can get a better sense of how harmful it might be by reading what the class syllabus says about attendance and class participation.
