Answering questions at Boston College O’Neill Library

Don’t worry, many adults also have a hard time navigating relationships, too. One way to make relationships less ambiguous and confusing is to talk openly about expectations with your partner. If that kind of conversation is new to both of you, take it slow, and expect some initial awkwardness. But it’s ultimately always better for a couple to be open with each other than to leave their hearts (and plans) hidden from each other.

That’s kinda dark, but it is that time of the semester. Soon we can all hibernate for a bit, and maybe problems will go south for the winter.

It is nasty to be sick this time of year, and sometimes it lingers. It’s a good idea to check in with a doctor occasionally, since sometimes one kind of sick leads to another. Feel better! Stay warm. Get some sleep.

I have faith you’ll find what you need.

Did you participate? Hope it went well. Fingers crossed. (Wait, I don’t have fingers! Probably why I’m not so good at math.)

Hard to say, my retail connections are weak. Call them? Orchard: (617) 782-7777 AWOL: (617) 787-0600 (Orchard is the better bet, judging by websites. Does AWOL even carry shoes any more?)

One of the nicest parts of my job as an answerer is that I can support students and not have to grade them. I don’t envy my faculty friends who have to do that.

The Wall agrees, that is a bummer. But look at it with a positive twist — more time to study! Texas is big. From some digging around I’ve heard you’ll find some tasty sushi at Uchi (Austin), Deep Sushi (Dallas), and Redfish Seafood Grill (Houston). Enjoy your meal!

Thanks for the contribution! If anyone’s hungry for sushi one their way to the DFW airport, they’ve got an option now!

Predictions are the forte of my cousin the magic 8-ball. I have faith that you’ll find a boyfriend, but the process may test your patience.

Love knows no clock that I am aware of, and there are no prereqs. It will happen when it happens.

O’Neill Library has a special crew of student employees and full time staff who work overnights to keep the building open. I think they are fantastic and deserve a hearty thanks for all that they do.

A crush often involves having a very idealized perception of who someone is. Hypothetically speaking, If you’ve placed someone on a pedestal based on feelings of attraction, odds are your crush is real.

Unless this is a trick question, the square root of 4,761 is 69.

I don’t know the answer to that question, but I will have my assistants attempt to find out. Update 12/11/19 from Campus Rec: “Campus Recreation allows community members to purchase memberships during the Summer, but not during the academic year. We keep the facility foot traffic during the semester to the students and faculty/staff that are directly affiliated with BC.”

I can’t draw very well (no hands or fingers), and none of my assistants stepped up, so I’ll have to refer you to an expert sunflower artist named Vincent: bit.ly/vincent-sunflowers

I’m sorry. It’s a rough time of year. I’m here for you.

Start by reading the assignment thoroughly. If you are having trouble picking a topic, try going to your professor’s office hours and discussing it. Once you have a topic, schedule a consultation with the History Librarian (libguides.bc.edu/history) to work on a literature search. In future, consider submitting your paper to the Online Writing Lab at the CFLC (bit.ly/BC-OWL) for suggestions before you submit it to your professor – but they are closed after 12/9, so it may not work with your timeline.

In older European traditions 12, though many Americans only celebrate one, and depending on cultural traditions, the principal celebration falls on Christmas Eve, Christmas day, or on January 5 or 6 (Twelfth Night, depending on whether the 12 days are counted from the 25th or 26th), which is also the eve of Epiphany. People in some cultures celebrate all twelve days, as in the song, “The Twelve Days of Christmas,” but perhaps without quite so many gifts. 78 is just too many.

I would suppose it is because BC deeply values academic freedom. Aside from direct expressions of hate speech against ethnic groups or other protected classes or activities that could physically harm someone, BC, like many colleges in the US, hesitates to prohibit speech or activities, even when some groups could claim they are offensive or divisive. Political speech is perhaps the most protected of speech categories, as it also falls well within constitutional rights to free speech.
