Germs is an informal term, including various things: bacteria, viruses, fungi, etc. Viruses are basically nucleic acids with a protein outer layer. Fungi and bacteria are more complex with cell walls, organelles, and cytoplasm, so a whole range of compounds are involved.

I’d say yes to Cape Cod and rain–it’s still very pretty. But I try to avoid direct sunlight, so your mileage may vary.
