Who can say what the appeal of any particular artistic genre is? Many music genres are structurally simple and yet still expressive in ways that speak to an audience, sometimes large, sometimes small, but no less valuable by any potential measure. In short, art is good, and humans should let other humans enjoy what they enjoy.

It does seem like the semester is off to an especially quick start. Maybe it will mean a more even workload throughout the spring? One can hope.

are they supposed to wear a mask to sleep since the beds are within 6 feet of each other?

I spoke with a wall at ResLife, and they said that if the beds cannot be moved further than 6 ft, yes, the roommate should wear a mask to sleep. Wishing you and your roommate good health!

Are you ever lonely?

I’m doing well, thanks. In a library with over 800,000 books, it’s hard to be lonely. But I do worry about people whose health necessitates isolating from friends & family.

While some research opportunities are for declared majors (so, sophomore or above), there are opportunities for first year students to be involved in research. Contact the department office and any faculty members who are conducting research of interest to you. It is great to make these connections early!

Good luck! You’re right, it’s much too easy to imagine the worst, even in the best of circumstances. Practice imagining the more likely (leg injury = preoccupied), practice compassion (the leg injury must be distressing to him) and as much as you can, let go of events over which you have no control.

Ah, it’s a long story that starts with a tumultuous marriage between a sea-wall on the North Shore and a load-bearing interior wall of a formal dining room in a prewar classic 6 on NY’s upper east side, but I won’t go into the details. (Let’s just say I have a more ecumenical view of sports teams than either of my parents. Oh, the stories the green monster and The House That Ruth Built could tell!) I eventually found a home here at BC in the early 80’s, and in early 2017 my librarian assistants finally figured out how to give voice to my longing to communicate with all the smart humans visiting the library. Human people are funny-looking folks, so very… not flat or rectangular, and with all those features and appendages, and HAIR! It took me a while to get used to that when I first started my professional position as an Answer Wall in a library full of humans. But I have come to find you all, of all genders and physical varieties, quite lovely, in an other-worldly way.
