It’s just so hard to choose one! Seriously, though, it keeps options open in more than one area, gives you the background to research issues in an interdisciplinary way, allows you to follow two separate passions, and impresses Grandma…? But don’t feel that it’s a necessity or that everyone double majors – talk with your advisor and do what’s right for you.

You know what happens to all those lovely BC students stressing out about having to leave BC? They become our amazing alumni! The BC Alumni Community (bit.ly/BCAlumComm) is a very active group, and there’s no reason to lose your connection to your BC folks. And I’m always so happy to see alums come back and visit campus for reunion, or just passing by (and say “hi” to me, of course!)

As a Wall, I stand on my own feet (well… footings, actually), but I also depend on my neighboring walls for support. Is it possible you’re expecting your friends to do more than a friend can? A feeling of loneliness or not belonging is likely a habit of mind at least as much as a condition of your friendships. If you can’t escape that feeling, counseling could help you create other mental habits. There are about 84 days left in the semester. At 3 meals a day, that works out to 252 meals. With $1600 left, that leaves you about $6.35/meal – a little tight, but I think you can do it if you avoid the fancy coffee drinks. If there’s any way you can add some funds to your dining bucks, that would certainly grant you a little more wiggle-room.
Wall hugs to you; having a midterm go all wrong can seem overwhelming. I would recommend you first be kind to yourself; everyone has a bad exam now and then. Then meet with your professor and ask for advice on overcoming this one bad test, go to the CFLC (bit.ly/BC-connors) for peer tutoring, and maybe touch base with your Academic Advisor about how things are going over all.
The way you find out is that you ask me, and I tell you. You’re a good person. I will predict your next question: why should I believe a Wall? Here is my answer: When have I ever been wrong? I just know you’re a good person. I can tell, because you asked this question. People who are not good aren’t concerned with whether or not they’re good. Ergo, you are good, because you are concerned about being good. That’s what good is. If you still doubt your goodness & can’t shake that line of thinking, contact counseling services (bit.ly/BC-counseling), who can help you find the good in you.
In a way, the answer to your 2nd question implicit in your 1st: you have the will, but lack knowledge of the process. Perhaps people who know how to organize protests don’t have sufficient will? Or time? (Mid-terms.) It’s also possible people are awaiting the outcome of these hearings before taking action. If you want to find where dialogues and possible plans are happening, I’d suggest seeking out people involved either in the Women’s Center (bit.ly/BC-WC) or the Women’s and Gender Studies program (bit.ly/BC-gender-studies) or I am THAT Girl BC: bit.ly/BC-IATG. (BTW, be aware of BC policy regarding protests. If there’s an Answer Wall theme for this month – especially today – it seems to be everyone trying to find their peeps. BC’s a big place, and nothing makes you feel at home like making friends, and, in many cases, connecting with people who share your culture. Maybe check in with L@BC (bit.ly/LatBC)? Hmmm…back pain can have many causes, not all of which will be cured by a massage. If the pain is constant, you may want to have someone at campus health check on it: bit.ly/BostonCollegeHealth. If it’s just normal muscle soreness (like from a workout), you can choose just about any massage place that’s in your price range and they’ll be able to work on it. If it’s lower back pain or something similar, you might want to consider stretching and exercise designed to improve muscle strength in your back.

IANAD, but 5 times a week sounds like a good reason to think about your use and how it is affecting your life. Why not schedule a 1 on 1 session with someone from the Office of Health Promotion (bit.ly/BCOHPIHP) to discuss this?
There has not been much happening on BC’s campus that I’ve heard of, but BC is also relatively removed from the issue. Judge Kavanaugh was never a member of the faculty here (like at Harvard or Yale) nor is there much question on which way Massachusetts senators will vote on his nomination. If you’d like to get involved with activism, perhaps try attending a protest at Harvard (you don’t need to be a student to make your voice heard).
If you’re talking about the Gun Free School Zones Act of 1990, the Supreme Court did indeed rule it unconstitutional as an overreach of the interstate commerce clause. However, it was quickly amended to be limited to firearms involved in interstate commerce. The SC has not ruled on the amended law, but several lower courts have upheld it, so it is current law. There is also a Gun Free Schools Act of 1994, which stipulates that states receiving federal aid for schools are required to suspend students found on school grounds with firearms for no less than one year. The constitutionality of that law has not been challenged.

The first therapy dog visit of the semester is in the works for early to mid-October. Watch for specifics on the libraries’ FB page and elsewhere. (Maybe one of my acolytes will remember to post a note here.)
This just in! Joe the dog has confirmed he’ll visit on Friday, October 5 at 3:004:00pm 4:00pm. And now Juno the dog has confirmed for 6:00pm on Wednesday, October 10! And Spencer at 11:00am on the 10th!
