Why do companies approve their product placement in some movies over others?

Like, why did Mercedes Benz allow their image to be used as Nazi cars in Raiders of the Lost Ark versus not allowing their logo in Slumdog Millionaire?

Interesting question. I did some searching in our communications databases (bit.ly/BCCommGuide) and found an article, where the Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle states it was because MB didn’t want to be associated with “scenes of squalor” and they were happy to be in the “posh” scenes.
