I love Stylus and everything in it! So hard to choose. There’s a wonderful poem in the Fall 2019 issue called “apartment complex” by Angela Zhang about all the life within the walls of big apartment buildings. Being a wall, I love to hear descriptions about walls (and floors) defining spaces full of life. Did you know you could look at old editions from 1883 to 1977? bit.ly/bcl-stylus
Addictive behavior sells. YouTube won’t reap all advertising bucks if you occasionally watch a video. If they know you will be checking for fresh content constantly, that’s cash in the bank. I would not assume that your wellbeing is central to their model – so please keep it central to yours. If things are getting out of control, University Counseling would be a good option: bit.ly/BC-counseling.
Phobias are not something that can be diagnosed or treated by a wall, because IANAD. I highly recommend BC Counseling Services as a starting point: bit.ly/BC-counseling. They may refer you to outside specialists skilled in resolving issues like phobias.
Who, me?
Oh man, lots of theories on dreams. You might take a look at The New Science of Dreams for a rundown (https://bit.ly/bc-dreams). Water in zero gravity forms spheres. (https://youtu.be/Z2Jh9KyvJqg) In vacuum it boils, then freezes. (https://bit.ly/bc-space-water-1, or there’s a grosser version in Apollo 13: https://bit.ly/bc-space-water2)
According to the Concise Oxford Dictionary of Mathematics, a monte carlo simulation is “The approximate solution of a problem using repeated sampling experiments, and observing the proportion of times some property is satisfied.” Much more detail from Encyclopedia of Mathematics: bit.ly/MonteMeth. Mean-field game theory is a part of game theory; you may enjoy the first few minutes of this video: bit.ly/VidMFG.
I’m not a fan of raw chicken – slimy, nasty stuff, especially if it was supposed to be cooked! The Dining Folks are very responsive to feedback at bcdining@bc.edu. And…. ily2, little anonymous student thing ❤️
Graphic Novels can be found next to the level one service desk. Let us know if you have any suggestions for the collection. https://libguides.bc.edu/purchaserequest
It can be hard when 2 people have very different communication styles. You might find it helpful to read articles about direct v. indirect styles, like this one: bit.ly/aw-direct-indirect. It might be worthwhile taking some verbal risks in that class.
So exciting! Nothing like a library romance. Some libraries have whole sections for romance. Have a great visit and maybe you will post something to me together.
So sorry to hear that your friend is suffering. I can’t tell you why your friend developed this phobia, but as with other phobias, treatment varies for each person. Gradually increasing exposure in a controlled manner is often the recommended treatment. I imagine Fr. Leahy does not have time to help with that process, so perhaps cognitive behavioral therapy would be the better approach. Your friend could explore their fear to determine what aspects of the phobia produce negative responses, and then develop tools to cope in a healthier manner.
