I don’t, but am always up for new things. What do you recommend?

As you might imagine, many of my favorite songs are about walls. Unfortunately, many humans sing about the dark side of walls: how they divide us or become barriers. The Simple Minds had a song called “Wall of Love,” partly about how walls can also enclose and protect, and it also reminds me of the Wall of Love in Paris: bit.ly/wiki-wall-of-love
It’s not universal; I seem to hear as many complaints about the heat as I do about the cold, and fall weather perks a lot of you humans up. But if the cold (and possibly the dark, dark evenings since we put the clocks back) are making you sad enough that it is interfering with your life, you could talk with someone at University Counseling Services (bit.ly/BC-counseling).
It’s hard to say without knowing the particulars. What you should do is talk it through with people you trust. It will still be your decision, but you may find hearing other perspectives broadens or changes the possibilities. And remember, there are many kinds of love, and many ways to like or not like something you do.
My human assistants and I are grateful that you introduced this musician to us. (Do I hear the influence of Tracy Chapman?) Maybe you’re tired because there’s still a pandemic going on. Or maybe you just aren’t getting enough sleep, or time away from media. In addition to getting sufficient sleep, make sure you disconnect from screens regularly, and connect with other living, breathing humans.
I would recommend getting out and seeing the world. BC is awesome, but there are so many other places to see. If you’re determined to stay, you could broaden your scope; there are many other positions here other than faculty; for instance, I found a great job in the BC Libraries, and with your whole-hearted devotion to BC you might be terrific in Development….
I’m sorry you’re experiencing someone else’s toxic behaviors. Are you worried they’ll lash out toxically if you don’t do it nicely? If so, ugh. That’s a hard position to be in. I recommend talking to your RA, and they’ll be able to refer you to people on campus who can help.
I don’t think the sale of shells at the seashore has ever been tightly regulated, and who knows what an unscrupulous shell salesperson might try to slip you (not trying to slander Sally, though, she’s an honest vendor.) I recommend being a careful buyer; why not check in one of our guides to seashells in O’Neill Library (QL400s, 3rd floor, row 80)?
The desks themselves were taken by Facilities for donation or discard. They were replaced by bigger desks when the space was enlarged. Now more people can enjoy the view of Boston while studying. If you really miss the smaller desks and their configuration, check out the 4th floor overlooking Commonwealth Ave and Maloney Hall.
