That turkey finds a partner!

This turkey couples look happy! If I pretend to be a cat or a turkey, would the social distancing policy not apply to me then? Jkjk…… I hope everyone stays safe and healthy. 🙂

I don’t mean to be catty, but let’s talk turkey -please keep your social distance! I’m delighted to hear that turkey love is in the air, though.

Hey wall! Can you maintain your online Q/A function even after this pandemic?

Otherwise I’d miss you when I go abroad for my junior year!

I have a confession to make. I’m not really the Answer Wall. I am an imposter. I’m the Answer Wall’s younger cousin, Off the Wall. Answer Wall asked if I could help out during… all this ?, and I… I pretended to be the Answer Wall. I’m a little ashamed. ? But the good news is that when the library is open and the Answer Wall is back, we can both answer questions!

Oh great! I find this Answer Wall (whether you’re in-person or online) very helpful with my mental health! I hope you’re there forever! It might be especially helpful with protecting my sanity when I go home for summer break! Errrrrr

I’m glad I can be helpful, mental health is so important. You’re helping with mine, too. And I am planning to be here as long as they’ll have me, so please do check in over the summer.

Hey wall! I heard that research shows human beings need 10 hugs a day to stay healthy. Can I have a hug? What do we do these days with social distancing?

There’s for sure a literature that touch is important for humans (https://bit.ly/bc-hugs), though there’s online disagreement about whether eight or ten is the right number…some of which looks loosely tied to the research. ??????????. If you’re isolated and need that kind of contact you can sometimes play a trick on your mind. Hug yourself. This sounds stupid, but the part of your brain involved doesn’t know the difference. One of my helpers who was super skeptical says it worked for him.

Meow meow meow meow meow meow meow meow meow meow meow meow meow meow! ?

Hey wall! I meow at my therapist throughout last session and now I just can’t stop meowing! Something ab it feels really soothing! LoL

If it’s soothing, right now I wouldn’t advise giving it up. Among things you can do to reduce the anxiety over our current crisis situation, it seems pretty harmless! You might want to consider taking a break from the caterwauling during synchronous online classes. I hope you soon feel soothed enough to purr.

Hi wall! Can we get pills for insomnia from UHS?

I haven’t been able to sleep normally on my bed ever since BC switched online…… I’d either sleep at some buildings close to the offices that I’m familiar with; or couldn’t fall asleep at all until sunrise. Yes, there’s something ab instability and night/sleep that’s triggering. But since the buildings are mostly locked right now, I guess I might need some pills so I can sleep at regular time?

I’m sorry you’re having so much trouble sleeping – this crisis is causing a lot of sleep problems. I would recommend contacting UHS directly (bit.ly/BostonCollegeHealth). You mght want to try some of the recommendations for improving sleep from the Office of Health Promotion or set up a health coaching session with them (bit.ly/BC-health-promo).

I don’t want to be gay…

I knew this is not the good timing, but #stayathome make me think a lot. I have been watching male adult films since 13 and I’m 24 now. I’m totally respect and understand gay.I just hated myself individually for why I’m gay, I don’t want to be gay, I just wanted everything be normal. I’ve never told anyone, this keep deep inside me, it is so hard sometimes.

Feeling different can be very hard, and I’m sorry you are struggling with this. Honestly, I don’t think a “normal” person exists. Everyone is different in some way, and accepting those differences and being the best possible person is the healthiest way to live. My advice is to stop wishing you were like others and be happy with who you are. If the people around you don’t like it, there are many others who will welcome you into their lives. Also, gay adult films do not reflect reality. Those people are actors being paid to do what the director tells them to do, and many are not even gay. Any relationship you decide to have should reflect only what you and your partner want, and there is an infinite variety of possible relationships.

I heard from VP Moore during the info meeting with all students on campus that most likely there won’t be summer housing for at least summer session 1…….

But I don’t want to go home….I guess paying the co-pay of $500 to go be locked up in a psych ward would be an option. LoL Nvm I don’t want to overwhelm the already overwhelmed medical setting. 🙂

What’s the sound of a wall sighing, smirking, and crying all at once? That’s what I just did. I hope you can resolve your housing. Contact the Office of Student Outreach and Support: bit.ly/bc-stu-support. They should be able to help you find a way.

Are there any summer housings, or are all students require to move out by the end of the semester?

It sure isn’t easy dealing with all the uncertainty these days. I had a chat with a wall over in ResLife, and she said your best bet was to email her people at summer.housing@bc.edu

I wonder if it’s possible to hide a skunk as your pet in the dorm? Or have you ever heard of emotional support skunk? I would give it a try, except I’m going abroad for my junior year.

Unlikely at best. Skunks, like many domesticated animals, enjoy exploring; however, unlike many animals, they tend not to be able to find their way back home. They’re also hard to control, and use their long claws to dig, which means deep scratches in furniture and walls. All in all, I don’t recommend it. It’s also not clear they pass muster under MA law: bit.ly/MA-wild-pets

Mirror mirror on the wall……. oops there’s no mirror, just the wall! Hey wall, can you predict if UCS people are going to be back on campus before summer break?! I know they are accessible over phone, I’m just curious if they will be here in-person? I feel like I could easily be drown by my tears nowadays. Btw, can wall cry?

“The future is cloudy, please try again,” as my distant cousin the Magic 8-Ball often says. I am reasonably certain that even UCS doesn’t know when they’ll be back on campus. Certainly, none of my own assistants do. I’m sorry you feel like you could drown in your tears. ?. Yes, this wall can cry. Sometimes I’m afraid for my human friends, sometimes sad because you’re all gone, and sometimes sad because I empathize with your pain. I’m stingy with tears, though, because I don’t want to cause a short-circuit in the wiring ?

The geese are back!

I can’t get a closer pic of them without them running away from me…… I guess those geese on BC campus are more sensitive? Last year the geese at the hospital tried to bite me when I approached them…… (that’s another reason why BC shouldn’t send students to the hospital, it increase the risk of students being wounded by the geese!) No worries I’m healthy and happy on campus, but any thoughts on what to do for fun? I feel so bored that I mint start chasing geese again……

Geese are notoriously cranky, so it’s best to give them some space. You’re bored? OK, I always forget humans have a much lower capacity for just hanging out than I do. There are about as many lists of suggestions for things to do online as there are grains of sand. Here’s one that looks decent: bit.ly/bc-bored. Boston.com does a weekly list of reasons to get out of the house on the weekend, but they’ve flipped it–here are their suggestions: bit.ly/bc-bored1. Those are some starting places, anyway. Stay safe, be well.
