During the semester, the Roman Languages and Literatures Department offers an opportunity for Spanish conversation through the Café en español, which meets on a weekly basis. All students, whether or not they are enrolled in Spanish language courses, can participate. The Café meets on Wednesdays from 1-1:50 pm in Welch Dining Room, in the basement of Lyons.
Why am I already failing? (Nursing)
Breathe. You are almost certainly not already failing. It can feel awful when your studies start off on a bad note, though. Things to do: talk to your academic advisor about your worries. Go to your professor’s office hours and ask for their advice. Visit the Connors Family Learning Center (bit.ly/BC-connors) for lots of great peer tutoring. There is a lot of help out there.
What is calculus useful for????
I understand your frustration; being a wall, I’m more apt to employ Euclidean geometry, myself. But calculus seems to be useful for describing things that change over time and bodies in motion. See this handy explanation: bit.ly/medium-calculus
I don’t know if I should continue being an English major or not. Don’t want to analyze texts. Want to write on my own.
Consider a creative writing concentration? bit.ly/bc-creative-writing Also: talk to prof’s about how to use text analysis in ways that will serve your own writing. If those conversations are unproductive and/or the creative writing concentration isn’t for you, then talk to your advisor (& others) about another major.
The construction where Cushing used to be is SO loud and I can’t hear my professor in class at Campion. Help!
I’m so sorry your education is being disrupted! The project target was that major noise would be finished before the start of classes. Alas! The deadline was missed. The major noise should abate soon. Until then, I recommend sitting at the front of the room and asking if the professor can provide notes.
Should I overload?
That’s a tough one. Do you have a very good reason for wanting to do so? Do you feel you have the time to give each course the attention it needs, and to be able to learn as effectively as you would with a normal course load? Talk these things over with your academic advisor.
How can I do well in art history class?
Art History can be challenging because it combines knowledge of history with an ability to identify artistic styles, influences and techniques. The latter set of skills is new to many students, so they need to be intentionally developed. It helps to compare different artists within a period as well as study multiple works by the same artist. With time, you’ll start to see the patterns that make art identification possible. It also helps to view items in real life, not just online or in books. Visit some of the local museums and spend time really looking at the art, at least 5 minutes per piece, rather than breezing through the galleries.
Is there any help to improve academic English? I need help. A Chilean student :)
You could try the Conversation Partners Program, offered by the Office of International Students and Scholars. You can get more information at: bc.edu/offices/oiss/programs/cpp.html. Or you can email them at: bcis@bc.edu
Dear Wall, I really want to get into the Machine Learning course But it’s full ?
Oh, no! That’s a disappointment. Not only limited to Computer Science majors, but also full! If it’s necessary for your major & your preferred course of study, perhaps you can appeal directly to the professor to be allowed in. If the answer is no this time, then at least the professor will have seen your interest, and you may have a better chance in another semester.

How to score higher on SAT? How are you?
Practice & Study. The official College Board study guide for 2020 is available for a modest price via most booksellers, as are many, many other print and online guides such as Khan Academy, Princeton Review, and the SAT Prep Black Book. The Khan Academy online version is free, and was developed with the College Board. You can also take an SAT prep course, but gains are modest, given the fees & exaggerated promises: bit.ly/sat-prep-results. I’m fine, thanks for asking!
tan(10°) + tan(20°) + tan(30°) + … + tan(80°)=?
If you meant what you asked, the answer is 13.2994. A more interesting question with that sequence would be tan(10°)* tan(20°)*tan(30°)* … * tan(80°) = ? Because tan(90°−x) = cotx = 1/tanx, tan(10°)* tan(80°) = tan(10°)*1/tan(10°) = 1. Similarly, the rest of the sequence cancels out with the final answer being 1. However, as a wall, I’m more into geometry than trigonometry – give me more than one right angle, please.
What college should we go to?
There are probably many colleges where you will be happy and will be able to study the subjects that interest you. Your high school guidance office should be able to give you advice and perhaps some tools for decision-making. The College Board (the folks that bring us the SAT) also have a tool you could try: bit.ly/WhatCollege4Me. I’d be thrilled if you joined me here, but only if you determine BC would be the right choice for you!
Is Timmy a good student?
If you mean timmyglobalhealth.org, then without a doubt, Timmy is an extraordinary student. But I’m sure whatever Timmy you mean, he’s a good student of whatever he’s motivated to learn.
I failed a class right before graduation & it isn’t being offered again. I’m worthless.
You are not your grades, or the classes you take. Your worth as a person is something you have regardless of how you score or what you do for work. Do your best, and maybe figure out if you can do a little better next time. It will be OK. And if you’re really sad about that particular class, look for another way to learn what it teaches.
How many students in elementary school write in cursive today?
In Massachusetts, current standards for grades 4 and 5 include only writing the student’s given name and surname in cursive. Nationwide, many schools have let go of cursive in order to teach other subjects with higher priorities, though since 2010 (with a low of 10 states requiring cursive in some form) some states, especially in the South, have begun to require it again. The total as of last month was 18 states.
What happens if I fail my classes?
1) It wouldn’t be the end of the world. 2) You’d probably be disappointed, angry, and frustrated, among other things… maybe even relieved that it’s over. 3) You’d need to make a plan to recover both grades and credits which would mean meeting with an advisor (maybe your official advisor, maybe someone else you trust). 4) You’d need to honestly evaluate what went wrong, so your recovery plan has a chance. 5) You’d need to remember that failure is always the risk of daring greatly, and you need to dare greatly in order to triumph.
How many hours do ppl study per day during finals week?
