It makes me sad to hear you’re sad in my home. Some of my librarian friends tell me there’s a wonderful view of the Boston skyline on level 5. Check it out. I hope it brightens your outlook.

Nothing? Priests take vows for a reason, and it would be ethical to respect those vows. You might want to ask yourself why you’re attracted to someone who is prevented from reciprocating your affection. I kind of understand it, though: priests are often intelligent, caring, and interesting… features we’d all want in a partner. Think about the features you find attractive, and look for them among people who haven’t taken vows.
It’s your call, but one thing that rarely works is changing people, so you’d probably have to decide to live with the cheating if you stick with him. Seeing you there posting this, I just felt so strongly you deserve to be treated better than this. Maybe you can just be friends?
This is done for preservation purposes. Book covers tend to be slightly larger than book pages. Therefore, shelving these books with their spines facing up would damage the binding. We are currently conducting a library-wide collection maintenance project that includes the expansion of the oversize section to accommodate items that are currently shelved sideways.
Disambiguate, please. Do you mean you want to understand (a) how to get people to stop talking, or (b) why anybody would prefer being silent to talking? (a): I recommend moving to a quiet area. Humans are social creatures. If you are in a quiet area, suggest that they move or be quiet. (b): Quiet allows for reflection & concentration; though humans are social creatures, they also need time away from sociability, in places such as libraries.
What would you like to discuss? That Donna Summer was a Boston native? That she is the Queen of Disco? Won all kinds of awards and accolades? Was in on the creation of electronic dance music? (In 1977!!!) Had a voice that made you feel good and made you want to dance? Was an inspiration and role model to many singers? Still has lots of loyal fans? She is indeed one of the greats!
With both patience and effort. The start of love is is pure luck. You never know who you’re going to find to love and love you back. BUT, as with so many other things where you need a bit of luck, those that work hard to make their own luck are more likely to find it. So, find a group of people doing things you like to do (a hobby-in-common is helpful), maybe download some dating apps, get out there and take some risks. You never know where you’ll find love.
Oh, sorry to hear that! I’m sure you were great. Casting decisions are mysterious; chances are good it wasn’t about you at all. Give yourself a little time to be disappointed, then go look for your next audition. The Wall is rooting for you.
It’s a great goal! The Office of Health Promotion is all about life balance – you can schedule an Individual Health Coaching session with them here: bit.ly/BC-health-promo. For better time management with academics, I’d also recommend the Connors Family Learning Center (bit.ly/BC-connors) for their Academic Coaching.
Typically speaking, making a horcrux out of a human is a bad idea. Humans are incredibly apt to being killed/destroyed, and are thus poor objects for use as horcruxes. Nevertheless, being a human (or animal) horcrux is possible, so we must ask: do you have any reason to believe you are one? I cannot prove a counterfactual, but I can suggest that unless you’re very important to someone that has committed murder, and would have been able to then cast the appropriate spell to make you a horcrux, it’s highly unlikely that you’re a horcrux. Remember, Harry is not a normal horcrux – he is a pseudo-horcrux; an accidental vessel for a slice of Voldemort’s soul only possible because Voldemort had already torn his soul so many times to make it unstable. It would be nearly impossible that 2 wizards in the same century did the same.
Materials on Course Reserves circulate for 2 hours because they are high-demand items that are set aside for class reading at faculty membersā request. The number of copies the libraries can purchase is limited by budgetary, space and copyright restrictions. What the BC Libraries are doing to address this issue is prioritizing the purchasing of ebooks for Course Reserves.
Yes, but not without limits: bit.ly/MA-weed. And it’s out of bounds at BC: bit.ly/BC-student-code4 (scroll down to the entry on marijuana).
It could be a setting on your laptop that makes it disconnect when not in use to save energy. You might be able to Google your specific laptop for instructions; otherwise, you can stop by the Technology Help desk in OāNeill or call 617-552-HELP (4357) for assistance. Hope you are able to eliminate this annoyance!
As a driver or as a passenger? Either way the answer is that it will be very difficult if you don’t already have one. Drivers especially make so many trips that the chances of keeping a perfect rating over and over again becomes extremely small. As a passenger, it’s all about respecting the driver and their car. Have a profile pic that looks like you, be ready to go when the driver gets there, don’t slam doors, don’t eat or drink food in the car, don’t track mud in the car. If the driver wants to talk, then talk; if they don’t, then don’t. Being a 5.0 passenger is all about being empathetic to each other, which is good advice generally I think.
Unfortunately, early voting ends today at 5pm, but there’s still Tuesday! The College Democrats of Boston College were involved in Joe Kennedy’s campaign in the primary (bit.ly/heights-cdbc). I’m sure they could use your help if you lean that way; Boston College Republicans might also have some plans underway. The library created a guide with links to voting info, including polling places: bit.ly/bc-vote-resources. There’s a talk on Monday at noon by BC’s David Hopkins about the midterms: bit.ly/midterms-hopkins. Get out there and ROCK THE VOTE!
It’s true that if everyone behaved with integrity it wouldn’t be needed. Same problem with the legal system, actually. But since you can’t rely on that to be 100% true, it’s useful to have independent professionals checking the work of everyone according to the same rules. That way every company doesn’t have to individually do all the same work to check on its partners and competitors, and regulators can use it as a baseline also.
