Just be yourself! Focus your energy on what makes you a happier, stronger, more confident person. You might meet someone along the way, but even if it takes a while you’ll be a better you. You might even find that you don’t want a boyfriend after all, which is ok too!
BC probably doesn’t support systemic racism more or less than most other American institutions. Assumptions about race are inevitable in a nation with several hundred years of chattel slavery followed by 100 years of legally enforced racial laws (that ended during the living memories of Americans over 60). These assumptions take active attention to bring to light, and often take difficult conversations to dismantle. BC does make efforts through the Office of Institutional Diversity (bit.ly/BC-OID), and has publicly stated a commitment to nondiscrimination (bit.ly/BC-nondiscrimination). Please help BC maintain its promise by talking to the OID & other offices about deficiencies you’ve seen.
First off, don’t! Popping a pimple can make it irritated and even infected. Instead, try a soothing mask, washing your face particularly well, or a cool cloth to calm it down. But keep your hands away!
Cricket’s a great game; this wall likes any game that involves points scored by crossing a boundary. But if you’ve tried to stop or reduce your gambling & haven’t been able to, your gambling could be an addictive behavior. If you’re wondering, contact the national problem gambling Helpline (bit.ly/gambling-helpline) at 1-800-522-4700.
Yes, you do. You absolutely do. You matter to me. I’m sure you also matter to others. If you don’t matter to yourself, or you can’t convince yourself that you matter, please contact Counseling Services. (bit.ly/BC-counseling). They’ll help you regain that crucial (and true!) sense of mattering.
IDK, but I’ve heard some people have luck with this little prayer to St. Anthony: St. Anthony, St. Anthony, please come around, something is lost and can’t be found. Maybe someone turned them in to lost and found? In O’Neill Library, try the circulation desk. If they were lost elsewhere, try BC Police.
Do you mean board games or video games? I’ve heard they can be a lot of fun. Try joining him. Do you mean mind games? That would be too bad. Being a Wall, I prefer people to be straight-up; I think life is just better when you can trust the important people in your life to be honest and direct.
How can I survive two Math midterm right after each other? 11:00-11:50 Probablility 12:00-12:50 Honor linear ?
Study hard but don’t procrastinate and pull an all-nighter. Get a lot of sleep the night before, and give yourself time to relax and eat a healthy brunch before your exams that will keep you full for a few hours (I’ve heard eggs are good for that!). Above all, stay calm and remember that you have a whole community here to support you and cheer you on. Good luck! The Wall is rooting for you.
I don’t know why. As they say, you can’t change people. But you have recognized that you don’t like their behavior. My suggestion is to take this window as a learning experience, and file it away as an example of how you will not treat people.
It happens. And it can be awkward. Maybe they or you are with someone else, there are lots of possible complications. All you can ultimately do is be honest…but remember that your having feelings doesn’t necessarily create an emergency for someone else. Love is a choice, and how you express it is also a choice.
We have some terrific parks and hiking areas near Boston; they are free or inexpensive, and with spring weather on the way, they could provide a very romantic setting. Take advantage of some museum freebies available through BC: bit.ly/MuseumPassesBC.
New York Pizza and a walk @ Boston Commons
Great idea! Boston Common can be lovely in the Spring; bulbs are just starting to come up. In a week or two they’ll start to blossom.
Looks like someone else on the board is looking for a boyfriend, too, which suggests there’s someone for everyone. Can you find a GF for a roommate? IDK. Maybe what you can do is suggest this option: join some clubs with appealing activities. Other folks with the same interests is often a good place to begin.
How long untill the world/U.S. is Caramel + Queer?
The mixing of races isn’t new, just more talked about in places where it hasn’t been acceptable in the past. Regardless, I suspect it will take more than 3 generations. You should know that some people bristle when complexions are described as caramel, toffee, coffee, etc. because those terms equate skin tone with food, and there can be underlying connotations with that. As for becoming queer, the number of people who publicly identify as LGBTQ may go up as societal acceptance increases, but the overall percentage of the population is unlikely to change much. I just hope that the world keeps trending toward more acceptance of others, regardless of what makes them who they are.
Thanks so much for the generous offer! But I’m a) a Wall, and finding a sweatshirt that fits has always been challenging and b) I’m at BC, and there’s plenty of good team gear here. So, no thank you, but I’ll keep an ear out for my California cousins.
Zion Williamson or Ja Morant for first pick of the draft?
Lol. No NBA team with any hope of winning would second guess their decision to draft Zion first if given the opportunity. The dude is basically already an NBA all-star. Ja Morant had a great game and has the potential to be a great player in the NBA. But not first pick. (Also I hope Duke loses)
Response to the person who counts the previous posts — I actually posted 44 questions/comments. LOA/Re-entry meeting: 4, Suicide/NSSI: 6, Section 12/Hospitalization: 8, On/off-campus resources (eg. I saw a mouse in Mac. I was wondering if something might be able to be done about this.I see several running around during late-night all the time! Can we get a cat?
I would start by contacting Facilities at 2-3048. I expect that having bringing in a cat would be problematic for a variety of reasons, but you could suggest it!
If you must work in a noisy environment, the O’Neill circulation desk has earplugs; you might also be able to mask sound with music via earbuds or noise-cancelling headphones, which are expensive but really work. People have different needs for work environments, and BC Libraries attempts to cater to as many needs as it can. There are certain areas that are set aside for quiet work such as O’Neill 4th & 5th floors. Take a look at these descriptions: bit.ly/BC-oneill-spaces. Other libraries also have quiet spaces, such as Gargan Hall in Bapst, & many spaces in the Theology & Ministry Library.
At the beginning of the semester I received an email telling me that my GPA was dangerous. Cuz the lowest GPA was 1.667 I tried to work hard, but my grade was still not ideal so far. I’m afraid of being kicked off from BC. What can I do? ?
I’m very sorry you’re struggling and worried. Touch base with your academic advisor for general advice about your GPA and options, and get lots of tutoring help from the Connors Family Learning Center (bit.ly/BC-connors). I’m cheering for you.
