Welcome to BC! I love it when transfers arrive, because I know they’ve worked that much harder to get here. (I’m sorry I had to redact the name: I have a no-names policy because my assistants and I can’t always tell the difference between a shout-out and a call-out, and we need to be consistent.)

You have to accept that sometimes you’ll face rejection. It’s impossible to be liked by everyone, but it’s much more satisfying to be liked by a smaller group of people who you can be your true self around than to be liked by a larger group that you feel like you have to pretend for.

My helpers have a Word document with strategically placed boxes to put blank Post-Its on and a parallel document we type in. The printer handles the rest.

That sounds like a worthy endeavor, and thanks for the tip. I’ll recommend this critically acclaimed anime-style series to my assistants.

Love is ultimately a choice, so sure. Your question implies a situation where one person is in love and the other isn’t. I’d want to know more about why learning to love someone seems like a good outcome.

Trying to make new friends can seem overwhelming when there are so many ways to meet people on campus! You could join an organization that interests you (check out bc.edu/osi for a full list!), try getting to know people in your classes, attend events around campus, check out events in your dorm if you live on campus, try a group fitness class or an intramural sport. The options are almost endless!

Consider which choice will make you happier long term and try to choose that option instead of making an impulsive decision.

Someone: you can’t imagine living without their virtues, and you can live with their faults (caution: this test doesn’t work until the initial infatuation has cooled somewhat). Something: Do you mean ice-cream? Poetry? Curling? All very different.

I don’t know if anyone actually believes that, but it is human nature to surround yourself with people who see things the same way you do. Challenging your point of view can be intimidating and it can feel easier to not bother.

There’s no limit to the number of people you could fall in love with in a lifetime, and everyone’s experience is different. Some first loves might be fleeting and easy to move past, and some leave lingering heartbreak behind.

Different people heal in different ways. Take some time to feel your feelings and it’ll usually be easier to let them go. Take care of yourself (food, rest, exercise) as well as you can. Talk about it with friends if you want, or don’t.

One of the benefits of age is being able to see that there are many possible someones for everyone.
