I’m very sad you are so down on yourself. There will always be people who are – or who appear to be – smarter, better at everything etc. I suggest you talk to your academic advisor, and also perhaps to University Counseling (bit.ly/BC-counseling) before you make any decisions about leaving.

If you’re still wondering whether you should, ask yourself two questions: can I live with his faults? Can I live without his virtues? If the answers are anything but “yes” and “no,” this relationship will end eventually, and it’s up to you when you want that to happen. If you’re certain, then the answer is soon, unequivocally, and with clear reasons. Be as gentle as circumstances allow, but be firm. There will be tears, but that’s OK. You might want to make sure a close friend is available for the aftermath.
I assure you, this is not a smart way to avoid an exam. Catching norovirus is distressingly easy though. As per the opposite of CDC advice (bit.ly/CDCNoNoro), eschew hand-washing, dine out at questionable eateries, and snack on unwashed fruit. But really, don’t. Go, do your best on the exam, and be well!
If your question arises from his silence following recent racist incidents, he probably believes that the appropriate people are addressing the issue. Such an approach does not reflect hate but a different way of thinking about how to respond to campus incidents. As with any communications issue, it’s always better to speak directly with the other person, so I’d suggest also asking Fr. Leahy your question.

Many friendships morph or fizzle. But in our world of screens (social media/texting) this stuff can be tough. You’re probably familiar with the avoidance dance. How about the honest and direct (in person!), “I don’t like how you’ve been treating me.” Really hard. But you may learn more about that “friend” and yourself after that.
The Concord Grape. It was developed in nearby Concord, Massachusetts in the mid-19th century, and makes terrific jelly and sweet wines for religious purposes. Well, they did cancel classes after 4:30 … Snow days are rare at Boston College, as administration considers this a residential campus. They do seem to have been more open to following city/state recommendations in the past few years though and have cancelled classes accordingly. Just wait for the next big one!

Are you sure they’re sure? They might not be so sure. That said, “fake it ’til you make it” actually does work a surprising amount of the time.
