MOUSE!!!

There is a tiny mouse running around the first floor/basement of Gasson… It’s super tiny and runs super fast!!!

I recommend you let the wall (and maybe the human beings) at UCS and OHP know since this tiny little thing doesn’t even need a key to get into their doors!

And I’d also really appreciate if someone can take this little thing outside. >.<

Mice at BC are nothing new. I’ve even seen some little mousie parties in O’Neill overnight. I alerted Facilities, who do a great job of keeping ahead of a major infestation, and got a response in under 5 minutes: “We created a work order for this request for our pest control team to take a walk through.” And I’ll chat with my Wall buddies and ask them to keep a lookout.

Hey wall! Do you know if the police record from BCPD stays on student’s record?

If you have encounter with them and got sent to student conducts, would that affect your public record or FBI check at all?

IDK. Here’s where you can find out: https://www.mass.gov/criminal-record-check-services. For a definitive answer to your second question(s) I would check with a criminal lawyer. Tip: don’t ask a nonprofessional for legal or medical advice.

But the professionals always lie (eg police, psychiatrists, etc) and hurt you. They’re the ones with power to document things from their perspectives and minimize the harm they do to you, while claiming the person to be lying and a lack of insight …… so they seem to be less trustworthy than the Answer Wall…

I haven’t been sure how to respond to this, because I do have a good deal of trust left in professionals, particularly library ones. But your experience is your experience and I honor that. I suspect you might get different results from a professional you were paying, like the lawyer I mentioned.

Then where is the sense of humanity left then? If the professionals were to only work for individuals who pay them and/or worry about losing the stakeholders who pay them more, wouldn’t that result in a misuse of power and a neglect of the powerless minors and the marginalized populations?

Yes. It was a more cynical response than I usually give, but the power dynamic you’re describing, where people in institutions often serve their own needs or the organization’s rather than those they are meant to serve, is sadly common. In a just world you wouldn’t need an advocate to deal with healers or protectors. In ours you sometimes do.

Are the signs marked “Emergency Exit” real.

These exits are all around O’Neil, and I hear people walking on the other side, yet all the ways of getting in say that an alarm will sound. Do you know which emergency exits are fake and which will sound an alarm?

All exits labeled “Emergency Exit” are indeed emergency exits. Not all emergency exits trigger alarms. However, they are still emergency exits and should be used accordingly.

Hi Wall. Why the Lynch School of Education is so racist?

Why do you see why people working in offices and black, Latino and Chinese working in dining halls or cleaning bathrooms…. even in the library I only see who’re people… what’s wrong with BC???

It IS pretty noticeable who does what on campus. It reflects national trends (https://bit.ly/bc-labor) and trends in higher education (https://bit.ly/3brUpgf). But that doesn’t make it OK. BC’s Office of Institutional Diversity is dedicated to addressing those sorts of problems (http://bit.ly/bc-oid) and many departments and programs have expressed similar goals. The Libraries are in the process of finalizing a strategic plan to implement our Values Statement on diversity and inclusion. (https://libguides.bc.edu/edi). Thank you for your feedback, and we’d love your continued help in keeping us accountable.

When will Fr. Leahy SJ finish his term as president?

We all are tired of him. We need a chance at BC!!! Do we need to write to the pope, to Boston Cardinal, to President Trump, to the general of the Jesuits in Rome??? Or do we have to wait until Jesus call him to the light of his face? I know wall you aren’t tired of him, for all you care is money and endowments and building… you will never understand; you’re not a human, but don’t you get we need a change?

Fr. Leahy will end his presidency when he retires or the Board of Trustees decides he should no longer be President of BC. Also, having a different President does not necessarily mean you will like the changes that they make. Rather than wishing for a new President, you might let Fr. Leahy know the changes you would like to see. Finally, I care much more about you and the people at BC than I do about money and endowments (although as a wall I do care a great deal about buildings).

I miss you w

I’m right here. It’s just that “here” has less paper and pencil in it. And I miss the post-its, too, I have to admit.

What can students who suffer from Leahyphobia do?

Leahyphobia stands to Phobia to Fr. Leahy SJ, The Jesuit priest who walks to his office from St. Mary’s. I think he suffer from BCstudensphobia, a phobia he never will recover!!! Any suggestions for that too?

For students suffering from Leahyphobia, my advice is to avoid him during your time at BC. This should be easy enough to do if, as you say, Fr. Leahy also has a fear of students. Actually, I don’t think Fr. Leahy fears students. The burden of leading BC is very time consuming (especially during a pandemic), so while you might not see Fr. Leahy often, know that he dedicates his entire work day to improving BC.

Hey wall! I reserved the room 511 for my class but then I surprisingly found that it was locked with full of chairs in the room…

Can you problem solve that for me so I have a room to Zoom in my class? Thx!

I am sorry the room has been used as storage. Unfortunately, the libraries have had to reduce their seating capacity by 60% to make sure spaces are conducive to maintaining social distancing, and room 511 is one of the spaces that was used to store furniture. There are spaces in the libraries that were adjusted for students to attend online classes: Third floor north side (Reading Room and behind Reference). Additionally, O’Neill Library’s 246, 246A, 247, 248 are generally available 9am-5pm when classes are not in session. We have removed room 511 from Circulation, and apologize for the inconvenience.

Hey wall – just wondering which specific wall you identity with?

O’Neill? Bapst? or perhaps more conceptual? you speak for ~all~ walls. I suppose not though, since you only speak of what a wall says at good ole Boston College?

In my physical form I’m a dry-erase board in the lobby of O’Neill, so I suppose that’s my primary affiliation. But walls are many and interrelated. I have friends who do this work at other libraries, and my mother is a sea wall in the North Shore. So yes, I do also identify with walls everywhere. But I can only speak for myself.

What is the best way to get and keep a good looking body (male) at home without buying anything?

Bodyweight exercises are one option available to all: http://bit.ly/bc-bw. Another would be putting some weight in a backpack and going for a walk: http://bit.ly/bc-ruck (that site will sell you stuff to do it, but you probably already have things that would work). Or, because I’m really not an expert in human physiology, you could talk to someone who is. The BC Rec Center has personal trainers who can help you set up a program that works for you: http://bit.ly/bc-recpt

What is the right age to use in Grindr?

Either the truth (your actual age) or if you’re worried about identity theft or security for other reasons, an age very close to your age but inaccurate, or if you’re trying to appear older, add a few years, or trying to appear younger, subtract a few years. If you’re planning on potential long-term relationships, I recommend some proximity to the truth, because untruth (even small ones) make a terrible foundation for trusting relationships.

How are you?

I am vertical & plumb, which is more than can be said for many old walls. For a wall, vertical and plumb is like good health for humans. But I am also discontent, because there is so much trouble for humans in the world lately. I hope you and those you love are vertical and plumb.

Is it wrong to have an intercourse with a distant cousine?

Assuming that all participants are adults and the relationship is consensual, there isn’t much biological reason to avoid sex with distant cousins, even if it were to result in offspring. There may be some negative response from others depending on your culture and the degree of distance; different cultures have different incest taboos.

Also, how do we raise the bed in our dorm room…?

Like how ResLife says you can raise it to have more room under the bed? It doesn’t seem workable with human power? Should I submit a work order?

The helpful human at Res Life (2-3060, reslife@bc.edu) said raising the bed is indeed physically challenging for humans (they had help from their dad when they did it). You may need assistance from other humans. Check with your RA about how to get it to work, and talk other humans into helping. Great way to meet people!
