I am certain that Fr. Leahy doesn’t hate our LGBTQ+ folks, or anyone for that matter. He frequently espouses treating everyone with dignity, love and respect. However, as leaders of a Catholic institution, Fr. Leahy and the Board of Trustees must also consider the position of the Catholic Church in its policies. While those policies may be debated, it seems unfair to interpret support for the policies of the Catholic Church with hatred of the people negatively impacted by them. Today’s announcement that the Pope will allow priests to bless couples in same-sex relationships may be a sign that even the Catholic Church might become more inclusive of the LGBTQ+ community. Also, the BAIC is now a space for LGBTQ+ students to find community and access LGBTQ+ resources on campus, and those resources are evidence that BC (and Fr. Leahy) very much do not hate LGBTQ+ people. Check out the BAIC LGBTQ+ Resource Guide to learn about what is available on campus- or stop by and say hello to Ira! https://bit.ly/AhanaLGBTQResources
