Lots of Technology For You!
In case you don’t know, BC Libraries have a variety of technologies for the BC community. In addition to providing access to desktop computers, O’Neill Library has a number of monitors you can plug your laptops into. There, you can also check out laptops, phone chargers, adapters, presentation clickers, cameras, microphones, and much more. In addition to having some similar technologies, the Educational Resource Center also has a Meeting Owl, iPads, and Chromebooks. (See the full list of loanable technologies and software found across the libraries.)
Highlights
Some notable highlights include O’Neill Library’s new media production equipment and the Digital Studio’s many resources, including the new Gaming & Immersive Room.
Media Production Technology
O’Neill Library’s recently acquired media production technologies to help students with their increasing number of media-based assignments (and just so you can have creative fun). The new items include Canon DSLR cameras, camcorders, a smartphone filming kit, and more. (See the full list.)
Digital Studio
The Digital Studio (O’Neill Library 205) is a place where the BC community has access to specialized software such as the ever-popular Adobe Creative Cloud and data-oriented applications like NVivo for qualitative data analysis, ArcGIS Pro for mapping and geospatial analysis, and Tableau for data visualization and creating interactive data dashboards. The Digital Studio also has 3D modeling technologies that can be used for photogrammetry and laser scanning. If you would like to make a model, a member of the Digital Scholarship team will train and support you (learn more and see model examples).
Finally, the Digital Studio has two reservable technology spaces: the Podcasting Room and the new Gaming & Immersive Room, which will be available for use starting on September 20th. The very popular Podcasting Room is available for recording podcasts, presentations, or other audio-based projects. The Gaming & Immersive Room has a PlayStation 5, a gaming monitor that can be used with the PS5 or a laptop, and a Meta Quest 3 VR headset.
If you find some of these technologies intimidating, know there is help. You can email the staff at digitalstudio@bc.edu for assistance with the Podcasting Room, Gaming & Immersive Room, and 3D Modeling equipment. For assistance with software, BC provides free access to LinkedIn Learning, and, of course, YouTube has a ton of tutorials.
