Federation Magazine Volume 11 "Federation Ltd" Item Info
- Title:
- Federation Magazine Volume 11 "Federation Ltd"
- Description:
- Volume 11 contains a series of major updates about the FED and its trajectory. It opens with the decision to make the FWWCP into a Company Limited, and the impact of the new company status on the day-to-day operations of the FWWCP. Following this, the issue features a story on the creation and rollout of the FED website, as well as a glossary of useful terms to help potential users navigate the new medium. Another major update is the advent of a new three-year Lottery-funded training program called Hand in Hand, which “aims to increase Fed members’ organisational and fund-raising skills, and to help create long-term networks of groups which can share training and skills.” Finally, the issue includes a story on a working-class studies conference held at Youngstown State University in Ohio. This conference sought to bridge the gap between the academic study of working class communities and the lived experiences of members of the working class. The issue includes reviews, as well as announcements on the back cover; the issue also includes an advertisement for FED-themed t-shirts. The books reviewed are: The Heart of the Matter: Diana, democracy, and popular culture; Kennington Park, birthplace of British Democracy; Innocent Blood, the Hexham riot of 1761; Life Turns Another Page; A classy Pair of Knickers and other poignant pieces; and Karibu: New Writing from Asylum-seekers and Volunteers.
