- Title:
- Postcards from Poland and other correspondences
- Description:
- Postcards From Poland is a collection of poems by Maria Jastrzębska, a Polish woman who moved with her family to London as a child. The book is split up into “Before” and “After” chapters, indicating the drastic shift in Polish perspective and identity pre- and post-World War II. The poems discuss significant historical events, like the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising during the war, as well as other more personal reactions to the German occupation, socialism, and the rebuilding of Europe. Postcards From Poland commemorates the resilience of a generation who prevailed despite facing extermination and revolving political change. The poems are accompanied by black and white illustrations and photographs produced and collected by Jola Scicinska, another woman of Polish descent who was raised in London.
