Flying Sparks Item Info

Title:
Flying Sparks
Description:
Flying Sparks is Tim Wren’s account of being an apprentice electrician during World War II. Wren left school at the age of 14 to start his apprenticeship in 1942, and he recounts the many ups and downs, challenges and successes of this role. As the war progressed, his role became more aligned with the war effort - wiring air raid shelters, prisoner of war camps, land army hostels, fire stations etc. - and he even recounts his experiences of D-Day, air raids on Brighton, and VE Day. While much of this book concerns less than pleasant matters, Wren offers an insight into the realities of the time, as well as the many ways that he was able to find the good and happy moments amid chaos.
