Title:
Toby: A Bristol Tramp Tells His Story
Description:
Toby is the autobiographical account of one Bristol man. Toby recalls his early childhood and growing up in an orphanage after the death of his mother. His narrative includes stories on his life as a homeless man, his journey to Canada as a stowaway, and his rejection of welfare institutions. Throughout the narrative, Toby emphasizes his fondness for nature and his calling towards “sleeping rough”. As he recounts his life, he reflects on philosophy, industrialism, nationalism, and the welfare system, among other topics. The booklet also includes a number of Toby’s poems, a series of photographs, and a small glossary at the beginning which translates slang used throughout the book.
