The Red Lion Item Info
- Title:
- The Red Lion
- Description:
- The Red Lion is a compilation of notes, historical records, and stories about Sir William Courtenay, a courtier of King Henry VIII in the sixteenth century. Robinson’s interest in Courtenay emerged after he read about a battle in Bossenden Wood in a book about Kent. He wanted to make this battle the focal point of painting and began conducting research in this area, which led him to Courtenay. Courtenay was named to a committee on parliamentary business in London, and during his service, advocated for universal suffrage and other political reforms. A number of paintings, photographs, and newspaper articles accompany the biographical work.
