Description

This print is in Bernhard von Breydenbach's "Peregrinatio in Terram Sanctam," published in Maintz. Reuwich made prints to illustrate Breydenbach's book that describes his pilgrimage to the Holy Land from 1483-84. Reuwich drew Jerusalem as seen from the Mount of Olives. In this detail, the Dome of the Rock, labeled the Temple of Solomon, is in the immediate foreground (colored yellow). The Church of the Holy Sepulcher lies beyond, to the right (colored blue). The remains of the Hospital are located immediately to the left of the Church of the Holy Sepulcher (colored red).
