Now showing in the Level\n1 Gallery is Print Power! volume 5<\/em>,\nan intercollegiate exchange portfolio of 60 persuasive posters co-organized by\nArt, Art History and Film Department faculty Brian Reeves and University of\nSouthern Maine faculty Damir Porobic.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participants were asked\nto create fifteen or more of their own propaganda poster prints on behalf of,\nor against ideas, cultural practices, or institutions of their choice. Media\nranges from screen prints and hand-carved relief prints, to a laser-cut\nstencil, and digital offset prints from BC\u2019s own Eagle Print services in Carney\nHall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Propaganda has an effect\non the way we see and act in the world. Part of the point of the assignment is\nto heighten awareness of how prevalent manipulative messaging is in our\ncultural landscape, and to provide students an opportunity to take their own\nfirm stand. The aim of converting others to their cause \u2014 to increase\nawareness, educate and call others to action \u2014 drove the design process. For\nmost, it was their first experience with the technology they\u2019re using.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Posters were created by\nstudents and faculty from four institutions of higher learning, including\nstudents at Boston College, Maine College of Art, The University of Southern\nMaine, and Southern Maine Community College.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
