Littell was the first designer of the Church of the Incarnation, New York (1864-65). In 1882, fire destroyed most of it; the church was rebuilt in 1882 by David Jardine. In 1896, Heins and La Farge completed the spire. John La Farge painted large murals in the chancel of the church in 1885 and created stained glass windows for the church in 1883 and 1884. Littell was an active member of the New York Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (A.I.A.), and was elected President shortly before his death in 1901.
