However, most faculty advisors will want to be very sure that you have a concrete understanding of the subject matter before allowing you to do research under them (that&#8217;s also true for all undergrads and even grad students). Chances are that you&#8217;re better off working as an assistant in a lab or asking a faculty member for some additional reading material in that field to get up to date.
