Comedy, feel-good, or psychological ones. \ud83d\ude42<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I asked all of my library helpers and their colleagues and they made these suggestions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>My family really enjoyed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt2980648\/\"><em>The Hundred-Foot Journey<\/em><\/a><em>,<\/em> which isn&#8217;t a comedy but is a feel-good, light romantic drama.\u00a0<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0093565\/\"><em>Moonstruck<\/em><\/a> is the best, and with a baby Nic Cage too:)<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0806029\/\"><em>Farewell<\/em><\/a> is a French language film, but it&#8217;s twisty, features the last days of the Cold War (it caused me to do some looking up on Google back when I was in college), and is &#8220;psychological&#8221;. It&#8217;s good for likers of <em>The Americans<\/em>.<\/li><li>As much as I want to say <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0095188\/\"><em>Funny Farm<\/em><\/a>, I have to say <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0069495\/\">What&#8217;s Up Doc<\/a> <\/em>and the ever hilarious (French) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0062480\/\"><em>Weekend<\/em><\/a><em>.<\/em><\/li><li>Some of my feel good faves: <a href=\"https:\/\/m.imdb.com\/title\/tt3169706\/?ref_=fn_al_tt_0\"><em>Pride (2014)<\/em><\/a><em>, <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/m.imdb.com\/title\/tt1648186\/\"><em>Fisherman\u2019s friends (2019)<\/em><\/a><em>, <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/m.imdb.com\/title\/tt0085859\/\"><em>Local hero (1983)<\/em><\/a>.<\/li><li>For psychological ones with a comic twist, anything Charlie Kaufman will probably work (i.e., <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0338013\/\"><em>Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind<\/em><\/a><em>, <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0120601\/\"><em>Being John Malkovich<\/em><\/a><em>, <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0268126\/\"><em>Adaptation<\/em><\/a>).<\/li><li>For comedies, <em>The Muppet Christmas Carol<\/em> is amazing.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0085859\/\"><em>Local Hero<\/em><\/a> is an absolutely charming film, one of my all-time favorites. It&#8217;s a comedy, but not of the slapstick, guffaw-inducing variety. Rather, its humor is understated and actually quite moving at times.<\/li><li>In the drama\/psychological study area, it is hard to beat the two-part masterpiece <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0091288\/\"><em>Jean de Florette<\/em><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0091480\/\"><em>Manon of the Spring<\/em><\/a>. WARNING: Wikipedia&#8217;s summary of Manon of the Spring includes a spoiler. Though I&#8217;ve included the link, I recommend not reading the plot summary.<\/li><li>Have to say <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0115685\/\"><em>The Birdcage<\/em><\/a> and\/or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0093779\/\"><em>The Princess Bride<\/em><\/a> and\/or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0486655\/\"><em>Stardust (2007)<\/em><\/a>.<\/li><li>One vote for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1053810\/\"><em>The Big Year<\/em><\/a>, a comedy about obsession-life balance in a group of birders.<\/li><li>A couple of possibilities from the other end of the planet (Australia): <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0105488\/\"><em>Strictly Ballroom<\/em><\/a><em>, <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0118826\/\"><em>The Castle<\/em><\/a><em>, <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0205873\/\"><em>The Dish<\/em><\/a><\/li><li>\u2026there&#8217;s always <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0093779\/\"><em>The Princess Bride<\/em><\/a>.<\/li><li>My recommendations would be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0104694\/\"><em>A League of Their Own<\/em><\/a><em>, <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0080455\/\"><em>The Blues Brothers<\/em><\/a><em>, or <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt3416742\/\"><em>What We Do in the Shadows<\/em><\/a> (the movie, but the show is good too).<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0066011\/\"><em>Love Story<\/em><\/a> (1970 movie), although the movie is tragic, it has a beautiful plot, also a beautiful theme song. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0109830\/\"><em>Forrest Gump<\/em><\/a><em>,<\/em> Comedy Movie (1994), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0250494\/\"><em>Legally Blonde<\/em><\/a>, Comedy (2001)<\/li><li>I like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0097814\/\"><em>Kiki&#8217;s Delivery Service,<\/em><\/a> which is really sweet.
